Description

Broadcaster KENWOOD TS-480SAT

This equipment is all an amateur radio wants to have. Its size and weight make it easily transportable. Delivers 100W power. It also has a built-in antenna tuner. With this station you can be sure that you enjoyed the best quality at the best price.

We want to emphasize that thanks to its separate control panel, it is perfect for use with the base station.

Separate LCD control panel with speaker
The front of the station has amber lighting and all the keys are illuminated, being independent can be placed anywhere up to a distance of 4m from the main unit

TX/RX AF DSP
The 16-bit AF digital signal processor offers features such as noise reduction, TX/RX equalizer, and AFs filters.

Continuous RX
500kHz (VFO: 30kHz) to 60MHz TX encompasses all amateur bands from 1.8MHz to 50MHz

Compact construction
In addition to a compact and easy-to-carry design, a mounting bracket is incorporated and the transport of the station is even more comfortable.

Among other features we note a quad mixer that provides a dynamic range of RX class TS-950, PSK31 compatibility, packet group tuning (with TM-D700E), PC-based control and optional IF filters.

POWER AND EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE

High RF power output
High RF power output Equipped with a dual final section featuring combiner and splitter circuitry, the TS-480SAT provides 100 watts of RF output with a 13.8V DC power source.

Separate Energy Sources
Separate
Power Terminals The 100W TS-480SAT has two power terminals (DC1, DC2) for a separate supply to each of the halves of the double final section. Thanks to this voltage balance, a stable output is ensured. This arrangement allows the use of two PS-53 power sources or a single 41A power source.

AF Digital Signal Processing (Tx/Rx)
Thanks to a 16-bit digital signal processor that offers dual-precision arithmetic operations (equivalent to 32-bit processing), a 100MHz clock, and 16-bit A/D and D/A converters, the TS 480SAT offers many powerful features.

AF filters
Tilt tuning can be used to move the desired signal away from noise using high cut and low cut filters (SSB, FM and AM), while the width allows adjustment of the pitch band to avoid adjacent noise (CW/FSK).

IF Filters (Options)
It is optionally available for more intensive operations of CW narrow IF filters with 500Hz and 270Hz bands (YF-107C, YF-107CN), as well as a narrow IF SSB filter with 1.8kHz band (YF-107SN). Either of these two IF filters can be installed inside the transceiver.

TX/RX Equalizer
The equalizer offers flat adjustment (default), large reinforcement (2 types), formant step, bass reinforcement (2 types), conventional and user, separately for transmission and reception.

Configurable using the ARCP-480 radio control program.

Double cooling fans
The equipment has double fans for perfect cooling.
Thanks to these and the front of the station is separated from the main unit, the fans can generate a forward-to-back airflow. Thanks to this system you can transmit continuously for approximately 30 minutes, without having to disconnect it

This figure is supplied for reference reasons only and depends on an ambient temperature of 25oC, an SWR antenna of 1.2 or less and nothing obstructing the airflow generated by the cooling fans.

IF Filters (Options)
A quad mixer provides a dynamic range of RX equivalent to that of the TS-950 class (50 kHz apart).

TX filter
Audio quality during transmission can be adjusted to be adjusted by switching between two pitch band settings (500-2500Hz and the default 300-2700Hz).

CW auto tuning
This feature uses DSP to perform automatic zeroing at a desired frequency during CW operations. It also supports RIT.

CW support
There is a full range of CW features, including automatic tuning. Being in SSB mode, simply pressing a key will automatically switch to CW very convenient for 50MHz operations, especially when combined with slow tracking.
Another practical feature is the ability to record different messages for fast transmission during contests.
You can choose between full or semi signal listening. For the first option, the delay time between key release and active receive mode can be set between 50ms and 1000ms in 50ms steps. Other CW features include separation control (400-1000Hz), side tone controller with 3-step volume adjustment, and an electronic switch, microphone palette mode, and CW reverse mode.

Noise reduction
NR1 is an improved line filter with 10 adjustment levels (including automatic) very good for extracting a desired signal. A good option for CW operations is the NR2 (SPAC), adjustable in 2ms increments (2x20ms). You can suppress noise at the same frequency as the desired signal, allowing you to extract a weak desired signal from ambient noise.

Digital Noise Limiter (DNL)
With three level settings, the DNL is highly effective at extracting even pulse noise that cannot be eliminated with digital analog circuitry and noise suppressors. However, for additional clarity, it can be used in conjunction with a noise suppressor, which extracts pulse noise at the IF stage.

Voice processor
Available for SSB, FM, and AM transmission, the voice processor improves message clarity for the receiving station. The input/output levels can be finely adjusted (0-100).

IMPROVED EASE OF OPERATION

Built-in automatic antenna tuner
The TS-480SAT's automatic antenna tuner with presets for fast band changes — encompasses all amateur bands from 1.8MHz to 54MHz.

Emphasis on portability
Emphasis on portability Outdoor use is facilitated by 13.8V DC operation and compact dimensions: the 3.2kg main unit measures 179mm (Al) x 61mm (W) ) x 258mm (P), while the 0.5kg control panel has dimensions of 180mm (Al) x 75mm (W) x 37mm (P).

Projections not included.

Memory Names Function
Clear identification is possible for the 100 memory channels with up to 8 alphanumeric characters in each of them.

Multiple tracking functions
Multiple tracking features Included among the many tracking functions are program tracking, memory tracking, group tracking, slow crawling, subton tracking, and CTCSS tracing.

Independent LCD control panel with speaker
The large independent LCD control panel featuring its own 6.6cm speaker (maximum 2W output) can be freely positioned at a distance of up to 4 meters from the main unit. The supplied desktop panel mount is convenient when using the transceiver at home on a desk, while the mobile panel mount is ideal for mounting in a car. The panel can be docked in place or removed from a stand instantly. It also features 34 keys, each with backlighting to improve ease of operation.

PC-based control
PC-based control The ARCP-480 radio control program (downloadable for free from the KENWOODwebsite) allows PC-based control of the functions of all transceivers, as well as customization of TX/RX equalizer curves

Compatible with PSK31 (SSB/FM)

The TS-480HX/SAT can be connected directly to a computer for the increasingly popular PSK31 mode. It also offers the following practical features:

- Separate adjustment of AF input/output levels (10 steps)
- Central frequency choice (1000Hz or 1500Hz)
- Adjustable AF DSP Filter Bandwidth (7 steps)
- Selectable CW narrow IF filters (if installed)
- TX with VOX function (no PTT control line required) PTT operation via data terminal

Voice guide and storage unit (optional)
The VGS-1 voice guide and storage unit can have two important functions: vocal frequency confirmation, key operation, etc. and recording/playback of messages received by the transceiver. A total of 90 seconds (3 x 30 seconds) can be recorded and stored in Flash ROM for playback and streaming. In addition, a convenient constant logging function means that you can always play the last 30 seconds of reception for confirmation.
